Fall/Winter 2015 Lookbook

Exploring Mount Hood, Oregon

Towering at 11,240 feet overhead, Mount Hood stands as a beacon for our hometown of Portland, Ore. It has provided resources and recreation long before we opened our doors in 1932, crafting boots that could stand up against the rugged terrain of the Pacific Northwest. In the 1930’s a well-worn pair of Danner boots served as proof that a logger was worth his salt. By the 1970’s, our boots were a staple for Mount Hood’s most seasoned outdoorsmen, with the introduction of GORE-TEX hiking boots. Today, our boots serve as the standard for the modern adventurer. Those called to leave comforts aside and experience the raw beauty of the outdoors. To introduce our Fall 2015 collection, we explored Mount Hood with a group of friends - wandering along the Pacific Crest Trail, sleeping under the stars and staying true to our roots as the Outdoor Original.

WY’EAST

As legend goes, Wy’east and Klickitat, the two sons of the Great Spirit, fell in love with the beautiful maiden Loowit. In their battle over her love, they burned forests and villages, destroying the lands in which the Multnomah tribe called home. The Great spirit Sahale became so enraged that he smote the three lovers and erected mountains to makr where each one fell. Mount St. Helens stands for the beautiful maiden Loowit. Mounta Adams for his son Klickitat. Mount hood for his son Wy’east.

FOREST ROAD 3512

At 8 p.m. on August 7, 2006, a lightning strike dramatically shifted the landscape of Mount Hood’s original road to the tree line and the historic Cloud Cap Inn. With the utmost appreciation, we thank Michael Dryden and more than 800 firefighters who worked day and night to save an area where many adventurers find retreat. The structure towers 6,000 feet above our hometown is a place we can truly call an Outdoor Original.

Cloud Cap Inn

Built in 1889, Cloud Cap Inn was originally designed as a mountain retreat constructed at 6,000 feet above sea level. Due to the treacherous nature of the mountain, the Inn is no longer open to the public and now acts as a base camp for the Craig Rats search and rescue missions on the mountain. We thank the Crag Rats for occupying and maintaining this historic building.

Lore of the Mountain

Mount Hood is the highest point in Oregon and the second most climbed glaciated peak in the world. Close to 10,000 people try to summit the mountain annually, however thousands more are drawn to the mountain on a daily basis to find escape and recreation. With a quick 45-minute drive east of Portland, the mountain can be almost too accessible at times. This has caused may to venture to the mountain unprepared. Rescue operations happen each year, and while most think they involve someone trying to summit the mountain, only 3.4 percent of them actually involve a climber. Mount Hood is nothing short of majestic, but dno’t let its beauty hide the rugged nature of the Pacific Northwest. We consider Mounta Hood our home and are excited to share it with everyone. All we ask is that you do so with the right equipment, knowledge, and respect.
